I love MTG. I've been playing since I was in 3rd grade (Fourth Edition and Fallen Empires were my jumping off points). I know the MTG gods, both
old and
new. I know both
Inquest and
Scrye. I've wandered the randomly generated terrain of
Shandalar. I've even played a couple
failed attempts at making MTG into a
video game. /streetcred

There is only one Bolas in my mind. |
I do play online once or twice a week (in limited formats) and I will start posting about those soon. This post is about Magic The Gathering Online. Specifically its free trial format. This is a seriously fun way to kill 15 minutes to half an hour every now and then. Hit the jump for more about free MTG Online goodness.
There is a surprisingly wide variety of decks (17 in total). They have both dual colour decks and mono colour, each with their own distinct flavour. The decks are simple enough that you can figure out how to play them, but also complicated enough that it isn't a total snooze.
However it is not all roses and tulips. There is no way to choose your opponent (it's pretty much impossible to play against a friend). Also every once and awhile when I log on it seems like only the newest of new players are playing. I'm not a competitive player but I've played against people who I wasn't sure if they knew how to attack me.

My ruthless opponent. I must destroy her! |
Last I find it is a great way to teach new players how to play the game. In my circles every now and then someone wants to learn the game (the friends I grew up with all have been playing since grade school) and we just don't always have the time to help them practice. This is a great way to learn the basic mechanics of the game.
It's a fun (and free) way to get a MTG fix when you're all by yourself... on a Saturday night... covered in
cheetos and shame... what was I talking about? Oh yeah MTG Online Free Trial give it a try (It can be downloaded
here)!
Till the next
post.
