Video Game Venn Diagrams

Made these for a Cracked Photoplasty. I thought I'd stick them all up on here since only a couple (if any) might place. (Hit the jump to see all of them.

Classic Venn plots.

I Stabbed Him, Then I Stabbed then I...

After playing for a meager (in Skyrim time) 12 hours I've realized that the world Bethesda has created is so vast that I could probably create a blog solely covering my play experience and Skyrim related stuff. I've decided I am going to post about it again when I start the main quest line.

I'm going heavy armor/ two-handed and using conjuration (necromancy) to become the Lich King of Skyrim New Northrend. I have been enjoying my play time but first two criticisms, the default UI sucks, it sucks hard, changing weapons and into magic is clunky and breaks game flow horribly, take a lesson from Bioshock guys. (Thank god for modders) The game also has finishing blow animations (which I really think games need to stop), I understand the theory. It is supposed to spice up the game and give you that sense of badassery whenever you land a fatal blow on an opponent. The VATS system in the new Fallout games were downright fatiguing in this way. (A raider's head flying off his shoulders is hilarious, but somewhere around the 50th time it just loses something). Skyrim tries to address the issue by putting in a few different finishers, however my character obviously has a favourite. I took a few screenshots to illustrate this.

The pointy end goes in.
Here is hoping this is something that can and will be modded.

Till the next post.

Abstracted Sailor Moon Poster Images

I do not have a lot to say about these. I was playing with some filters on photoshop and made them on a whim. It only too me 45 minutes or so in total (they're mostly just made from filtering images). Sailor Moon and Samurai Pizza Cats, introduced me to the world of Japanese animation. Anyway I just wanted to make something simple and colourful highlighting the characters. Hit the jump to see all 6 (the Sailor Scouts, Sailor Moon, and my favourite villain).

This Week in the Chop: Obama and George RR.

I started this week a little sad. Kotaku's contest judges don't share the same sense of humour as me. I had to rethink how I approached their contest this week. I dropped subtlety and went for very visual jokes. Cracked.com didn't have topics I could get into this week (it's been awhile to be honest, I'm much more into video game and movie topics.) Hit the jump to see the shops.

DCU Online: Playtime

Sadly due to circumstances beyond my control I lost my screenshots with the now departed Herr Mummy. This is ok, my existence as the ancient Egyptian crime fighter was short and brutal. I made the grevious mistake of rolling on the PvP server. The PvP play experience can be summed up with the following equation; Player 10 levels above you + Flight = dropping dead 5 times before finishing the 2nd quest.
So I dusted poor Herr Mummy and made a new character.

Monster Dash and Axe Cop

Today will just be a quick post about the two things that stole my evening away from Skyrim, Monster Dash and Axe Cop.

Original Ninja Info Via Nintendo Power

Was going through some old Nintendo Power Magazines yesterday (looking for Nintendo Player's Challenge's) and realized there is a lot of stuff that needs to be brought back. So I scanned a sweet "Infographic" from the Ninja Gaiden II edition of Nintendo power. I edited for a more friendly web format. Enjoy. Hit the jump to get your learn on about ninjas.

Animated VGCATS

Let me start with saying it's a fluke I caught these at all. I go to VG Cats once every couple of... years maybe? For a long time I thought Scott finally quit the comic game. For some reason I had the urge to check it today and for once I was rewarded. There were actually a couple of strips up I haven't seen. More importantly I found out that there are dedicated fans out there that make the strips into cartoons! Excitement! I don't care if I'm the last one to know! A whole bunch of videos after the jump! (Including a Christmas special!)

Jay and Silent Bob Get Old In Halifax!

Went to the Spatz theatre last night to see the masters of the subtle arts (dick and fart jokes that is) Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes. MGD was there in full force (4 of our 6 attended). It was a lovely evening for all of us. The podcast should be put up here (I don't know when). Hit the jump for my take on the evening with Kevin.
This sums up the night.

The Lich King Cometh...

I can say I'm done with DCU, the post will be forthcoming a little later in the week. In the meantime here is a quick preview of what to expect when I make my Skyrim post later in the week.
This is as close as the game will let me get to making a Poultrygeist.

The Werewolves of Millers Hollow: A very short story.

The following is a dramatic retelling of a game of Werewolf we played, at the Gelatinous Dudes Game Day last weekend. We had a great time. Enjoy! (Hit the jump for the story!)

It was a cold dark evening as the remaining villagers gathered. Only a few of their number remained. The vile beasts' hunger was ferocious and insatiable. For weeks the people of New Haven woke up each morning hoping that they would not find another grisly scene left by the monstrous things plaguing them. One of the beasts, wearing the guise of the village smith Shaun, had finally been discovered by the elder of the brothers Perry. Sadly, much too late.

Poor Benjamin had made the mistake of accusing the village of being too liberal in their accusations. His protest only drew the ire of the crowd. His feet dangled that very evening. The third elected Sheriff (there had been many elections that season) made his accusation against Jason. (There had been much speculation as to an incident involving the good Sheriff's daughter a couple of years prior.) Despite the obvious personal vendetta being enacted by the Sheriff, Jason could not escape his fate.

On this wretched evening only four remained that had not fled or perished. The Brothers Perry, (being Tylor and Conor, Conor the younger being the newly elected Sheriff) The Young Girl Genevieve, and the Terry the village Mayor.

The brothers, being close, did not suspect one another of being the creature. Tylor had decided that Genevieve had acted strangely during the trial of the smith. She had been too sorrowful, and her reluctance to leave was also suspicious. She was put to trial, and when it was decided, the three last men put themselves to the grisly task of setting her to the tree.

"Finally we may bid the others return," Conor said to his sibling, as they gazed upon the macabre decorations adorning the tree.

"Yes we must make preparations post-haste!" replied the other Perry. Whether it was exhaustion or relief neither brother noticed the beast that was once Terry until it was far too late. A chorus of two voices rose in the air. One of the deranged predator, the other a twisted cry of the prey. The monster's blood lust was horrific as it mauled Conor.

Tylor was dumbstruck, but for only a second. He knew it was already too late for his kin, even if Conor was to survive, he would become one of the hellspawn they had been hunting down. Tylor raised his hunting rifle, the last rifle left to the village, and aimed it upon the beast.

BANG

It was finally dead. The villagers would come to rejoice, and this day would become one of celebration. Children would run through the streets playing hunter and wolf. There would be feasting and many cups raised to those who had finally stopped the blight of the land. At the days' end mothers would tell their children about the valiant men and women who finally flushed out the vile Wolf-Men and how justice had won the day... but that would come later. For now, there was just a numb silence enveloping the last man standing.

The First Rule of RCMP Club

Just a quick post! Our new RCMP head was sworn in today.

Bob Paulson was sworn in as the new head of the RCMP Thursday at a change of command ceremony in Ottawa.
"Paulson takes over for William Elliott, who was the first civilian commissioner of the RCMP. Elliott stepped down last summer after facing a number of complaints from rank and file officers." - lfpress

Normally I would not post about this kind of news... but I just couldn't help but giggle when I first heard our new RCMP head's name is "Bob" Paulson.

His name is Robert Paulson,
His name is Robert Paulson.

I have never seen both of them at the same place in the same time...

I wonder how long it is before people start in with the bitch tits jokes.

Till the next post.

Starships Start Here

One of the more intriguing things I found out about at Hal-Con was startshipsstarthere.ca. It is a parody site of ships start here. Star ships start here shows off a wonderful alternative reality where Nova Scotia ships builders are applying their trade to ships capable of boldly going where no man has gone before. The site is open to submissions, so being a photoshop amateur I whipped up this little number.

Being a Lunenburg native I decided to go with one of the two most recognizable landmarks (the other being our waterfront). I also love the idea of the academy being the secret holding facility for any kind of Japanese style monster battler. I went with Ultra Man instead of Voltron, or the Morphazoid because... well Ultra man kicks ass. I'll update to let you know if I got submitted.

Till the next post.

Inside a Dead Sky Scrapper: Why so glum Art Games?

Before I start I must award "Inside A Dead Sky Scrapper" the sneakiest depressing game of the year (Keep in mind I try not to read descriptions before I play the game as I feel half the time it spoils something). So the game is your standard dreary art house stuff.
Great foot to lead off with...

DCU Power Girl... Yeesh

First loading screen of the game, it looks like the artists are from the same school of thought as the game designers (the school of gigantic boobs).

 Images of disproportionate heroines here.

DCU Online: First Impression, Character Creation is Hard.

I finally downloaded DCU with my weak rural internet. I have spent probably four hours with DCU but I still haven't officially made it to the gameplay yet. I decided I wanted to make a post about the character creation screen (definetly the most important part of this game).

It's interesting to me that unlike other mmorpg's, in superhero games your character doesn't change its appearance past the starting screen. I guess it would suck attempting to find a Batman Mask of the Eagle so you have the look and stats you want.

BEHOLD! The price of power.

Toys, Plants, Zombies and Nightmares

So I've been spending a lot of time on the Google store recently, playing some of the better and not so great games it offers. I decided to give Toys vs Nightmares a try.

I played through the game, all of it. The game is colourful and has nice cartoony graphics (I like most flash games they remind me of the SNES, the system I grew up on). That being said, I am not the demographic for this game. At least I hope I'm not. It is too easy. I stopped playing the "survive the level" game and started playing the "let's see if I can fill every square on this floor with a toy game." (pictured above)

Master Throne Link

I entered this in a Cracked.com photoplasty awhile back, got 4th place for it. The topic was "What video game characters do with the items they collect." I figured I'd make a play on all those Master swords Link has accumulated over the years.

If I could find a better resolution version of the images I might make an entire Smash Brothers Brawl Series of characters on the throne.

Till the next post.

Desktops: Song of Fire and Ice/ Final Fantasy Mash Ups

Today I was thinking of something to warm up my photo chopping (I am going to try out this weeks photoplasty on cracked.) I came up with the idea to mix up Final Fantasy summons with the major houses from a Song of Fire and Ice (minus Martell, plus Greyjoy and Tully because I used the HBO desktops as my base/style). Hit the jump to see all seven!
