DCU Online: Playtime

Sadly due to circumstances beyond my control I lost my screenshots with the now departed Herr Mummy. This is ok, my existence as the ancient Egyptian crime fighter was short and brutal. I made the grevious mistake of rolling on the PvP server. The PvP play experience can be summed up with the following equation; Player 10 levels above you + Flight = dropping dead 5 times before finishing the 2nd quest.
So I dusted poor Herr Mummy and made a new character.

I ended up with a Robot Fire/Hand Blaster, and chose Superman as my mentor. I have to say I've seen quite a few versions of Big Blue. DCU has created the creepiest looking Superman I have ever seen.
It's like staring into the Abyss...
I went through the basic tutorial. This is probably the first tutorial I have ever played in which the end quest is "Save the World" (no joke, that is pretty much quoted from my journal). I was curious where I would go from here. Save the galaxy? The universe? The multiverse? You can imagine my surprise when I found out my next mission...

I guess I can't monkey around with these criminals!
Fighting gorillas with ray guns. There was a story here about how these machines were turning people into Gorillas (which is kinda grim since I'm burning them to death), and there were also organized evil Gorillas with lasers. I played for about two hours. That was all I could take. Some people (I don't know who) like to grind in games, that is gaming for them. It isn't what I enjoy. Once I got the third quest in a row that amounted to (Kill X Gorillas) it was time to stick a fork in me. The one thing that interested me in the gameplay were the race hubs.

This mini game, was a simple "run through the ring-track as fast as you can" it makes me sad how simple it was (though there might be more complex courses at later levels) I would have liked some obstacles, something to jump over, or something to breakthrough. I feel that it's too bad this was the most fun I had in game (outside the character creator). Anyway I can't say I could get into DCU. The game just wasn't able to captivate me. They need a better hook than the their T&A loading screens.

 Till the next post.
