Toys, Plants, Zombies and Nightmares

So I've been spending a lot of time on the Google store recently, playing some of the better and not so great games it offers. I decided to give Toys vs Nightmares a try.

I played through the game, all of it. The game is colourful and has nice cartoony graphics (I like most flash games they remind me of the SNES, the system I grew up on). That being said, I am not the demographic for this game. At least I hope I'm not. It is too easy. I stopped playing the "survive the level" game and started playing the "let's see if I can fill every square on this floor with a toy game." (pictured above)

Pictured above: The least gratifying victory screen on the internet.

In its defense the game does offer a nightmare mode, but I'm of the philosophy that the normal setting should have a little bit of challenge, any amount at all would have been nice.

After I was finished I thought I'd try the most famous of the "vs" games.

At this point I was excited to see what all the fuss was about. It started a little more promising, this game had everything Toys vs Nightmares had, but it felt more polished. By level 10 my excitement faded into more disappointment at another game that was too easy. I was just about to throw in the towel when I picked up this in game.

FINALLY! I thought, it was a slow ride but finally the plant zombie battle royale is heating up. Sadly the zombie "all-out attack" was as accurate the existence of that now infamous cake. (I'm sorry I will never mention it again) I found myself playing the "let's fill every space in the yard game" with the plants. I don't really understand the draw to these games. This one didn't even have the option for a higher difficulty, maybe it picks up the pace around level 25 or 50 or something but I just don't have the patience to play through hours of a game before I can finally play. (Though I have allowed the odd exception, and paid dearly for it)
In the game of "Fill the yard" both the zombies and my sense of challenge lose.

Till the next post.

  1. Plants Vs. Zombies is redeemable because it's playable on your phone. Its charm is in the simplicity; you can compete without giving it your full attention as you're on the bus or what have you.
The first few levels are certainly snooze-worthy but it does get more complex, which I'll allow since it takes only a few minutes to get through those stages. Yet, as you progress, you have access to many sorts of plants and the fun is in the variety of the defenses you can create.
That being said, it would still be better to have a Hard mode. One could, however, say the same of Super Mario RPG, and we all know that disparaging such a title as that will bring rise to the nerdliest of nerdraging.

  2. Are you saying Final Fantasy 13 is not good?

  3. I understand the arguments for P v Z but it just can't engage my interest.

And yes Final Fantasy 13 is not good. It shouldn't take 25 hours to get to the actual game.
