(That's right, internet careers that don't exactly consist of showing your naughty bits)
Let's say you wanted to make some cash on the internet yourself, but you're not quite sure exactly what you should be putting up. Let's take a look at some of the larger markets so that hopefully (*cough*longshot*cough*) you can make some cash... And consequentially send me cash.
Channel Type 1 - Gaming Commentaries
There are a lot of gaming commentary channels around for an eclectic array of viewers. Machinima, for example, has over 3 million subscribers and hosts a lot of videos regularly. Machinima also has a lot of people underneath its umbrella that happen to be making a fair amount of money playing games like Call of Duty and Halo. Sounds pretty sweet, doesn't it?
(Not the kind of sweet you can eat, sorry. I should have clarified)
However, achieving this kind of status alone would be very difficult. Machinima has several broadcasters that upload content regularly. More realistically (still a longshot) you'd be more among the ranks of casters like UberHaxorNova who uploads videos and dominates Youtube's front page on the regular. This one guy, with his shit eating grin attitude and almost gangsterlicious demeanor managed to get 400,000+ subscribers to the date this was published. Apparently, being a giant boob on the internet can get you somewhere.
(Porn jokes are too easy to make!)
Channel Type 2 - Vloggers
Vloggers are just like the rest of us, with generally the exception of having money to buy a nice camera to go along with their pirated copies of movie editing software. There are several out there that generally talk about things in the news and galavant around the internet picking up videos (usually Youtube videos, go figure) to use to acquire views. See, it doesn't matter what image boards tell you, original content is NOT what gets people's attentions.
(This is going to get so many views now)
Vloggers like RayWilliamJohnson and PhillyD have 5+ million and roughly 2 million subscribers respectively on their main channels. Not counting side projects, that's a fair amount of gain. After running a quick Google search (the most reliable source of information) I was able to uncover an estimation of how much RayWilliamJohnson's channel pulls in. The numbers may be a bit shocking.
In one year, it is estimated that RayWilliamJohnson's main channel will earn 1.2+ million dollars.
That's a significant amount of money, isn't it? But! There are ways to make much... Much more...
Channel Type 3 -
