The First entry in out and about!
I warn you now there's no rhyme or
reason to the order of this, i just went with one out of a proverbial
hat really. I decided to go today (that is, the 26th),
just to get out of the house moreless. Two birds with one......
I'm sorry, low fruit |
So decided to go with the one I seem to
frequent the most (even going to most of them around you do develop
preferences).
Location: The Monster Comic Lounge,
which is here.
Why yes, there is very little to give away what this store is. |
So, the first thing I have to say:
arguably this is the biggest store in the area.
Hello hilariously open space. |
There's one other I
can think of that maay rival it, but it would have to get kinda
technical for me to be able to find out (the difference is one floor
versus two). Even with all of the stuff they have set up the space is
still fairly huge, which lets them put out the most back issues. I
think people can already see where this is going but I'll say it
anyway; If your're looking for something older, this is probably your
best chance to find it.
Now, this doesn't mean they don't have
new stuff either, there's a good wall of current comics, and the
trade and graphic novel corner.
Something, something, perspective something. |
there's also the board game corner
opposite (I blanked on getting a picture of it, crud).
Selection (what everyone worries
about): good overall, they get quite a bit of stuff in regularly,
it's also the only store I'm aware of that does book accounts (which
is cool if you're into collecting/getting something regularly and
don't want to worry about it not being there).
Bonus:
When you go in, you'll most likely see
one of these two, or both of them:
Steve and Mike. Look at how huggable they are. |
They're easy to get along with
thankfully, and aren't afraid to talk to anyone, which is refreshing.
They don't even do that weird condescending game-store worker thing
(definite plus).
The only thing: The store is big....
and a touch organizationally challenged. It's fun to go in and browse
which is the default for this kind of place, if you're looking for
something specific though be ready to ask. Or be there a while. Or
both in some lucky cases. They understand what's where, I think it's
wizardry sometimes though (plus I've definitely picked up something
that the response to seeing it was "I'm not sure where this came
from"). I have a hunch this is an outsider looking in thing
though, and plus who goes to a comic store with only a few minutes of
their time to spare?
Verdict: Like I said before, All of the
stores around are great, finding how they stand out is the trick. In
this case the largest collection of back-issues I know of around,
possibly the only place that does comic accounts, and probably the
friendliest staff overall.
I don't think they can have a bad day..... ever. |
Oh, and lovably disorganized is how I
would put it.
That's all I have really, Hopefully I'm
not going to be pelted with things next time I'm in.
Again I'm really sorry |
Ta for now.
